Handling Instructions

Textiles

Our cloth is dyed with natural indigo. We recommend gently hand-washing indigo- dyed cloth in warm water using ph neutral soap. Air dry out of sunlight. We wash each piece twice before finishing it, however, even when dry, some color may come off on other fabrics if rubbed together strongly. Unlike synthetic industrial dyes, our indigo is plant based. Pieces will weather natually overtime. We consider this weathering process to be beautiful. Please store all textiles out of sunlight.

Ceramics

Care/Washing —

All pottery is microwave safe. Refrain from use over direct heat or in a conventional oven. Thermal shock (transferring from high to low/low to high temperatures quickly) can cause pieces to crack. All pottery can be washed in both a dishwasher and by hand the same way you might treat any other dishes. However, both home and industrial dishwashers make use of aggressive sprayers that can knock ceramics into each other causing the glaze to chip. Hand washing pottery may extend the life of your favorite pieces and can be an interesting way to express gratitude for the joy they

bring you.

Kanyu —

“Kanyu" is a Japanese term for the fine crackling effect some glazes exhibit on the surface of pots. This occurs when there is a difference in shrinkage between the clay and glaze during firing. At CODO, we consider this a desirable and beautiful result. Often times the cracks will hold pigments from the food that is used in the vessel, and a unique aging and coloration process can occur. If you use dark teas, red wine, or coffee in a particular cup, the cracks may begin to appear dark. If you do not desire such a pronounced contrast, consider soaking your piece in water mixed with a bit

of flour. Add the cup or bowl to the solution while it is cold and simmer it for 30 minutes. Leave the piece submerged over night.
